Mother Teresa High School

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Our grade 7s and 8s are into the final half of their year and we are 3 weeks into our second semester and looking ahead to progress reports for our high school students. On Wednesday, February 22nd we began our Lenten Journey with our Ash Wednesday ceremonies, and all I keep thinking is how time flies and soon it will be March Break, then Easter, then before you know it June. The fast and furious pace for our Mother Teresa community continues.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN

Will you go to the wall for your faith?
Welcome to Lent 2012.
Our community gathered on Ash Wednesday to pray and reflect on what it means to be a person of faith. Our theme for this year is "Will you go to the wall for your faith?" During our services we looked back on famous people who went to the wall for their faith, or their values or a cause. Going to the wall means that you stand for something of deep importance. We looked at famous people in the past who went to the wall. They included Ruth from Old Testament, St. Paul, Mary, Mother of God, Nelson Mandella and Mother Teresa. We asked ourselves why we are reluctant to go to the wall. Is it fear of being laughed at, fear of ridicule, or simply lack of conviction?

Throughout Lent we will explore what it means to go to the wall for your faith. We will do this through prayer, discussion, meditation and we will build our own Western Wall or Wailing Wall to which we will take our prayers on Healing Day. Details about this theme and its impact will be shared with you as we move through Lent.

Inside Ride
Students have rallied behind this wonderful fundraising event for childhood cancers. The Inside Ride challenges teams of six people to compete on a stationary bike. The teams are to get dressed up in crazy costumes and cheer each other on. This event will be a blast and it will take place on April 26 in the Atrium. Stay tuned...

ThinkFast
ThinkFast is coming soon. The organizing teams will begin planning next week. This year we have over fifty students wanting to get involved! Wow. Date and plans will be sharedwith you as they develop.

Youth Ministry Institute
Our students are hosting the annual Youth Ministry Institute this year on Thursday, May 3. Our theme for this year is COMPASSION and we are very excited about what we can accomplish. Again, details to follow.

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
The last event Mother Teresa's Student Council hosted was the Oscar Night Awards Ceremony and After Party. It was a lengthy process, which started with students filling out surveys in December for the categories, and came to a close February 17th, when the awards were finally presented. Thanks to some wonderful planning by Student Council, excellent cooperation with the DJs and outstanding help from a lot of Mother Teresa staff, the awards ceremony and dance was a huge success. Almost 400 students attended and reviews were all excellent. The next event that Student Council has planned is the Canned Food Drive, benefitting the Barrhaven Food Cupboard and Shepherds of Good Hope. Our goal for 2012 is to raise over 15, 000 cans in a challenge with St. Joseph's High school. The Canned Food Drive will take place from February 27th - March 9th, and we are confident it will be a great success!

Today's "Generation Me" of children and youth are more self-confident, entitled and masters of technology. The bad news is that they are more miserable, depressed and narcissistic than previous generations. Why is this happening?
