We have been notified by School Resource Officer, Constable Sturgeon, of a sexual assault and abduction that occurred in Barrhaven the morning of Tuesday, January 18th, at 9:45am. The victim, a girl aged 16, was walking along Tartan Drive when she was approached by a man described as in his forties with light brown or olive skin, five feet six inches tall, medium build with dark, shaggy, ear-length hair. He was driving an older model red four-door SUV similar to a Ford Escape or Ford Explorer with no license plate in the front. The assailant was wearing a beige suede coat, blue jeans, work boots, and glasses with thin black rims.
Anyone who might have information on the attack is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit at 613-236-1222, ext 5944 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
We have made a general announcement to our student population urging female students to be aware of their surroundings at all times and not to use ear phones when walking. We are also urging our students to walk in pairs or groups for their own safety. The story has run today in the local newspapers.
Our school continues to be a safe environment and we will continue to be vigilant in monitoring our school property.
